Mani Ratnam’s Guru has released all over the country and abroad. Initial reports have been very positive. Almost every one is praising the movie and the performance of its lead actors.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but from what I’ve heard, this movie has the potential to become a box-office hit (I always knew the movie would be classy!!). The general public seems to like it.
Here are some of the + ves I’ve heard:
1. Abhishek Bachchan’s acting - Almost everyone is singing praises in unison about Abhi’s acting in this movie. Many of them say he has given the best performance of his career so far. Some of them even think he might not give another acting performance like this even if he acts for another 40 years.
2. Mani Ratnam’s Direction - Mani’s directorial touches and narrative skills are getting appreciation from almost all quarters, except for the odd negative comments here and there.
3. AR Rahman’s music - Music is another strongpoint of this film. All the songs rock and apparently the BGM rocks too. Naturally, the music is coming in for praise from almost everyone. Amitabh Bachchan even said the music is phenomenal, especially the theme music.
4. Technical aspects : All technical aspects of the movie seems to be good including cinematography by Rajiv Menon.
5. Performance of support cast: Abhi’s performance has been backed up by the performance of the wonderful support cast. Mithun Chakraborthy is said to have given the best performance of his lifetime. Madhavan, Aishwarya Rai, and Vidhya Balan are perfect for their roles.
Some -ves about the movie that I’ve heard:
1. Unwanted songs: Some say the song “EK Lo Ek Muft” is unwanted.
2. Temples shown in the movie don’t seem Gujarati - no comments
3. At least one person said the last court scene in the movie resembles a similar scene from Martin Scorcese’s Leonard Di Caprio starrer’Aviator‘ - Can’t comment on this as I haven’t seen the movie yet.
Thats it for now. Overall, from what I’ve seen and heard so far, Guru seems to be a great movie. One that’s definitely worth a watch.
