Indian Cricket Team’s Poor performance & People’s Reactions
I was once an avid cricket fan for my beloved Indian Cricket Team. When the cricket and team moved towards business, I lost interest and stopped supporting it. I don’t even watch cricket now. From today’s newspaper I read that India had lost to Bangladesh and fans showed their angry reactions everywhere. Posters were burned, chappals and sandals kissed Cricket hero posters somewhere.. and even some angry fans tried to damage Dhoni’s house which is under construction.
Well… In a way, people’s reactions show the kind of expectations they had.. or has for their cricket heros. They expect a lot.. coz they love a lot and pay a lot. Did I say pay a lot? Yes, when the cricket stars endorse some products.. and when you buy those products, you pay those stars indirectly. (I don’t mind calling the buyers as indirect employers!). And in turn, fans expect good results. In a world cup match.. fans expect their team to win that cup. Or atleast show awesome / great / good performance, in case if the cup is lost. They dont want a bad criticism or bad name. From what I heard and read, Indian team had upset the whole nation with their under-performance in India-Bangladesh match.
On a angry note I would like to ask the team players.. what else do you need? You have great sponsors, amazing cash-flow, constant lime-light, happy family and everything else one could dream for. Why don’t you guys really respect your fans? Why wont you play?
