Tuesday, April 21st, 2009Bharatgas - New LPG Gas Connection procedure
Wednesday, April 8th, 2009Lately, Bharatgas - Consumer LPG Gas supplier of BPCL have launched a scheme to offer new LPG gas connections to households. As per this scheme, a consumer can buy a new connection on-spot by paying Rs.3860. The consumer will get a activated connection, pass-book, rubber tube, Regulator and a 2 Burner Gas stove. Cost of Cylinder extra.
To buy a connection under this scheme, you need to produce a Address proof and ID proof.
Address Proofs :
- BSNL Telephone Bill
- Ration Card
- Any Nationalized Bank’s Passbook
- Letter from your HR (if you are new to locality / got transferred from another city etc)
- Electricity Bill, Water Tax Receipt
ID Proofs:
- Ration Card
- PAN Card
- Govt Issued ID Card in case of Govt Employees
Pre-Requisites:
- You must not have any other existing Gas connection in your name
- You must not have any existing private gas Connection in your address
The cost of the connection I mentioned above may vary from dealer to dealer. Because the cost includes the additional item such as 2-Burner Cooking stove, or 3-Burner Cooking Stove or Mixie or Table Top Grinder or any other appliances, that are supplied by BP from time to time. As far I enquired, a new connection with 3 Burner stove option costs Rs.5500-5900. And a Table-top grinder option costs upto Rs.6800. Check with your area’s gas agency to find their options and availability.

Zoho People - Make up
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009Sometimes when I get some free time, I do UI make-up for fun. Today when I was searching for Shanky’s desknumber in Zoho People, I thot why not try a make-up for Zoho People. The result? Take a look below.
[Click below to Zoom]

The design may contain non-zoho elements like Textures on top, and most importantly, the font - ARIAL. I use Arial a lot, my personal favorite. Unlike Verdana, arial takes up less space on the screen and helps me to pack more text into a given space.
The design shows my view of how the “Self-Service” page in current Zoho people could be updated. No drastic changes. Just adding some whitespace, and BOXing the information. Also I used categorization of the left side links. Zoho CRM’s upcoming SETUP contains this style of categorization and during evaluation with some clients, it scored good reviews. The top right green shows - Where in the world is the employee right now?. Suppose if a company has multiple offices, then the attendance system can be hooked to Zoho People and whenever an employee signs in for that day, the status could be shown as shown.

Cloud applications to become more faster…
Tuesday, March 10th, 2009Intel X25-E :
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-x25-e-ssd,2158-9.html
Intel’s latest SSD is a right and promise-sounding device that could boost performance of Cloud applications in coming years. Right now, Cloud servers rely on hi-speed server Hard disk’s to serve the intensive R/W requests. Tom’s Hardware’s recent review about Intel’s X25-E SSD brings a lot of hope that very soon SSDs will find a niche place in Application and web servers. Thus leading to two server categories in the future : Hi-performance servers Vs Standard servers, using SSD and Hard disks respectively. Since SSDs can deliver a 10X performance boost than traditional HDDs,we can expect Cloud computing, Data mining apps , Reporting tools and time-intensive web applications can overcome the ‘delay’ / ‘time-consumed’ factor.
As of now, SSDs are completely a luxury and a lifestyle element. Intel’s entry into server focused SSD will push other manufacturers to introduce hi-performance disks as well. Over the time, the price and capacity of SSDs will reach a level where they are affordable enough to replace the hard disks and that is when, cloud applications will become much more faster.

SSO & Zoho CRM
Monday, February 23rd, 2009SSO - Single Sign On
Why SSO?
Before we get into ‘what is SSO’, let us understand ‘Why SSO?’.When Zoho was initially launched, people registered themselves with different usernames and passwords for each services. Soon users felt there need to be a unified login system so that one unique username and password can let them access all Zoho services. That is when, SSO - Single Sign on was introduced.
What is SSO?
SSO is an enhancement to improve login sessions. Once you log into any zoho service, you can simultaneously access other Zoho services without logging in again and again. In other words, one username /password will let you access all Zoho Services.
Does Zoho CRM support SSO now?
Yes, Zoho CRM supports SSO now. Earlier a username/passoword which was used to access other Zoho services could not be used to access Zoho CRM. But now, being SSO enabled, Zoho CRM is accessible with the same username and password that is used to access other Zoho Services.
Sounds good. But I do have some doubts. Where can I read more about this SSO?
The Zoho CRM support team has hosted a detailed FAQ page called SSO Transition Guide. This guide will answer all the commonly asked questions. For more information you can email support@zohocrm.com

User Interface Cleanliness - The Salt of UID Kitchen!
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008Things look good, if it is clean and tidy. The same principle applies to every object in this earth. Right from your home, the place where you sleep, bath, eat, watch TV, cleanliness helps in maintaining a “fresh” and inviting atmosphere. The same applies to UI design too.
Keep things clean and neat. This cleanliness can be analogous to the Salt we use in cooking. Salt should be used right. Not less, Not more. Or else, it will spoil the whole dish. Similarly, Cleanliness in a UI can be achieved by using right mix of white space and contents. Too much salt (whitespace) then the UI becomes too simple or too thin. Less salt (whitespace) means, too cramped or less breathing.
In web GUI, the cleanliness feeling can be inserted using whitespace and padding/margins. White space can act like a median separating two blocks of information. You can note this if you watch all the Web 2.0 sites out there. Ample space and emphasize on highlights. Highlight the important element on that page/block. Provide ample whitespace around the highlighted element, and the user’s brain captures it. Damn simple. You don’t need a fashion model or some attractive image to grab the attention. Well planned cleanliness will create the desired effect. Balance it right, and it will rock!
