Offering cheap international calls through voice over IP is a criminal offense in India. International calls in and out of India still carry really high rates. That segment remains one of the few highly regulated telecom market segments . In contrast, India has among the lowest mobile rates in the world, because of flourishing competition. Indian government could eliminate this “crime” in one stroke: simply legalize VOIP international telephony, and let competition do its job.

oh I m feeling so sorry that voice over internet protocol is a crime in India..I m an indian staying in canada and other relatives in london..we use skype to be in touch with each other…and its so economical and user friendly..I hope that skype also reaches india as international calls still do have very high rates in india..hope a good service like skype also benefits indians there..does anyone have an idea whether skype is used in india?
